Arts and Culture Community Building

African Descent Society British Columbia is instrumental promoter of local artist and culture which the organisation uses as catalysts for community development using the work of artists and cultural presentation. This program involves wide range of community development art based activities. The African Descent Society BC committed for several years supporting the work of presentation of local artists, artisans, heritage performers in the community based festivals, live paintings, digital heritage photos exhibitions, arts community engagements events, heritage walking tours which all primarily focused on local artists which promote local community engagement activities. This program is actively involve supporting and mobilising local communities and community partner through the support of volunteerism, participation of community partners and interactions with local artists. Our program primarily engages Citizens in their local communities through heritage walking tours, performances, dialogues, painting; fashion shows promote arts and cultural expression, heritage celebration, arts preservation for local heritage for people of African Descent in Vancouver since 1858 and that of BC since 1858.  We provide capacity building for local residence participation in heritage events, mobilising local partner’s celebration of community history, heritage and heritage legacy activities. Artists are promoted to engage local residences or local communities through their art presentations. The African Descent Festival is one of our arts and culture community building project presents the work of local artists, creators and heritage performers which attracts local community engagements through numbers of volunteerism, performances, planning, and event managements and create these opportunities for artists to involve their work in the community.
